The Brave Little Turtle’s Big Race

Children’s bedtime stories: Long ago, in a bright sunny pond surrounded by tall green grass and colorful flowers, lived a little turtle named Tilly. She was the slowest of them all, but Tilly is known to be brave and good at heart. Everyday, she watches her friends-the rabbits and the frogs- racing around the pond and wishes to join them.

On this one bright morning, animals from the town started preparing for the Great Pond Race, to be carried out once a year. So, the enthusiasm for everybody to prepare was seen floating all around.

Tilly stayed back, filled with this mixture of emotions that danced inside her, watching, “Maybe I should do it, too?” came into her head, “But what if I get too slow?”

The friendly visit of her rabbit buddy Benny made a new urge to surface her ideas again. “Tilly, you must run this time. It would really be a fun one,” encouraged Benny.

“I don’t know, Benny,” Tilly replied. “I am not as fast as you or the frogs.”

Benny smiled and said, “It doesn’t matter how fast you are. What matters is that you try your best! I believe in you!”

Benny encouraged Tilly to run in the race.

Lining up at the starting point with all her friends, Tilly felt butterflies in her stomach. They were off! The rabbits dashed ahead, while the frogs leaped gracefully across the ground.

Tilly began slowly but she focused on the goal. She remembered what Benny said, “Just try your best.” As she stepped ahead, she kept telling herself to go.

Tilly went on with the path noticing that most of her friends were tired. The rabbits hopped quickly but then had to take a rest. The frogs leaped ahead and then sometimes had to take a rest because they could not breathe well.

Tilly kept moving at her steady pace.

She met a little frog, who had tripped on his face. “Do you feel alright?” she asked him and stopped to help him up.

“Yes, thanks Tilly! You’re so nice!” said the frog with a smile. Waving goodbye, Tilly moved ahead. She met another rabbit sitting under a tree and panting. “Do you need some water?” she asked.

“Yes, please!” she said gratefully.

She gave some of her water to the rabbit and set off again. Every time Tilly did something good, she gained strength and became more confident.

When Tilly almost finished, she saw many of her friends still far ahead. But Tilly was not sad. She remembered how much she had enjoyed herself and how proud she was to have done it.

Finally, with a final exertion of effort, Tilly crossed the finish line! Though she didn’t finish first, all her friends cheered for her. “Hooray for Tilly!” they shouted.

Benny bounded over to her with a huge grin. “You did it! I knew you could!”

Tilly beamed with pride. She came to understand that it’s not about being the best; it is about giving it your best shot and helping others while doing it.

That day, Tilly learned that bravery takes a different form, and kindness paints color to every journey embarked.

Moral of the Story: Children’s bedtime stories                                                                                                More stories…

It is not over to be the fast. But trying to do is it is not over with and nice to others all throughout
